I totally agree with the statements in this thorough article about the myths of sailing. I’ve been sailing for 16 years. I started with a Sandpiper 565 market Camp board in the weekends now I have a Beneteau First 23.5. It’s actually just a few feet longer but a far sturdier boat with a kitchenette and a head. And three births it’s been an awesome adventure on Northern Georgian Bay.

My father bought a used Ericson 41 in 1972. We had that boat for 27 years. It was 5 years old when we bought it. It had raced transpac twice and Tahiti once and came with 15 bags of sails, 5 being spinnakers. We enjoyed innumerable trips to Catalina island and took summer cruises up and down the coast of California, our longest cruise was sailing to Hawaii and back. After Hawaii we started racing Valerie. Looking back, a truly wonderful 27 years. A very well made bost, a good racer and comfortable cruiser.
